How to unlock BlackBerry Bold 9700 (Service Provider MEP4 Code Required)

Unlocking the BlackBerry Bold 9700 is just as easy as unlocking any other BlackBerry. It is different from other BlackBerry Bold 9700 unlocking procedures in that it requires a Service Provider Code (MEP4) instead of the Network unlock code (MEP2). It is not as complicated as unlocking the Bell BlackBerry 9700, however, it does require some new knowledge. The video above will show you how to go about it for all of you visual learners and for those that want to read through it before purchasing a BlackBerry Bold 9700 unlock code, you can take a quick read through the rest of this tutorial.

The easiest route to go is to obtain a SIM card that is not originally from your carrier. Insert it into the phone and select yes when asked if you want to unlock the phone. You will receive a message that says “Enter Service Provider MEP Code”. This is where you would enter in the code provided from our unlock code store. If it is entered in successfully, you will not receive any message, but shortly after, you will see it connect to the SIM card that is inside your phone (assuming it is an active GSM SIM card).

If you do not have a non-accepted SIM card, then you will have to follow these instructions to get your phone unlocked.

If you are operating your BlackBerry on OS 5.0 or less…
1.) Go to Options => Advanced Options => SIM Card
2.) Type in MEPD
3.) Type in MEP [alt] 4
4.) Enter the service provider unlock code for BlackBerry Bold 9700 which can be obtained from our unlocking store
5.) Press Enter
6.) You will receive a Code Accepted message if the unlock was successful.

If your BlackBerry is operating on OS 6.0 or greater then the procedure is very much the same, however, the options have changed slightly.  Instead of going to Options =>Advanced options => SIM Card, you will have to go to options => Device => Advanced System settings => SIM Card.  The instructions from there will be the same as the above tutorial.

When I order the unlocking code, does it include the MEP4 service provider unlock code? Or, is that a separate order? The Bell 9700 video says you provide 2 codes but the video of the order only shows one MEP2 code and no MEP4 code.
